Musical Digest: Cryptik Howling and Neige et Noirceur
Cryptik Howling is a name you should remember. The Rouyn-Noranda (QC) deathened black formation released last year its 3rd album, Synthetic Ascension Design, which we wrote a review about. This week the band was unveiling a video for the excellent song “World Shepherd”, based on the aesthetic of the album. The atmosphere is twisted and uneasy, while the production is both highly professional and enthralling; a bunch of qualities that reflect the essence of the album. If you like the video above, you won’t regret buying the digipak.
While we wander through the black metal theme, here’s a preview of the next Neige et Noirceur album, Gouffre Onirique et Abîmes Cosmiques, a release planned for this Spring on the Montréal label Sepulchral Productions. “Future Torture” has been made available for streaming this week and gives us a certain idea of what to expect: a production different than the previous albums, especially the guitars sound which reminds us of the early 1990′s sound. This is both dirty and dynamic at the same time. On this thick cake of music, Spiritus’ vocals are laid like cold icing. Despite its 8+ minutes, this song seems to be less repetitive and less hypnotic than before. As for the atmosphere, we’re still in a cold realm, but a way less occult (or mysterious) place than before. For those who followed the black entity since its inception, it is definitely intriguing.
